Team News: Both Men's Teams Get off to a Flying Start

The Oaks & District Men's Teams have got off to a flying start with a win in their first matches of the 2011 Men's Doubles Summer League.

The first team won their fixture against Oadby (Granville) IV 8-1 playing away.  The first team are currently playing in division 6B.  This success early in the season means that our team is currently top of the division thanks to a better games percentage than the the other clubs (see results table here ) - long may this continue.

Wimbledon Ticket Draw

Our annual Wimbledon ticket draw will be held on Tuesday 10th May 2011 at 7pm in the clubhouse. 

We have been allocated five pairs of tickets, including one pair for centre court on Sunday 3rd July, men's finals day. If you are interested you must be there for the draw and be able to pay (by cheque) for your tickets on the night. If you cannot be there on the night you can ask someone else to represent you as long as they are happy to pay for your tickets initially

Results of the Leicestershire Veterans LTA Winter League

Summer Time... light evenings... Club Nights Start This Week!

As the clocks spring forward to mark the start of British Summer Time and the evenings stay lighter we get ready to start our Club Nights.  First Club Night will be Tuesday 28th March... get there are early as you can - some people are aiming for 5:30 - as evenings will still be a little 'short' for a few weeks to come...

Fish & Chip Supper

Our first social event of 2011 will be a Fish and Chip Supper at Rothley Fish and Chip Shop at 7:30pm on 16th March.

The cost is £12 which means that £2 per person will go to club funds.

Ladies Coaching returns home!

The new net posts and nets were up just in time for the Ladies Wednesday lunchtime coaching session to return to the newly resurfaced courts following the half term break. And the verdict?  They're wonderful.... flat, level, pot-hole free and non-slippy despite the slight drizzle.

The weather has got the better of us and we will have to wait until the spring before the new surface is painted and permanent lines marked out.  The courts do need to be treated with respect - correct footwear only,...

Men's Second Team - Final Match against Holwell

The men's 2nd team finished the season with an away match against Holwell Sports.

We had a full team for the night Colin Cockayne, Marcus Clarke, Steve Bloor, Dave Woolcock, Adam Cockayne and Dave Cockayne.  But unfortunately when we arrived at Holwell they only had 4 players that turned up so that put us up 3-0 from the start. So that just meant that each of us would play two matches during the night.

Another successful Ladies Charity Tournament & Lunch

Friday 18th June was the date for this years Ladies Charity Tournament and Lunch.

This year followed a different format to previous years as we had a slightly lower turnout then in the past.  Ten players had entered the tournament.  All names went into a draw for partners.  The resulting pairings were: Pauline H & Lesley, Chris and Rachel, Andrea & Janet, Maz & Pauline G, and Kerry & Nicki.

Whilst Oaks Men's 2nd Team are having their best season for a long time our other teams are all struggling to find that first elusive win of the season.

The Ladies 1st Team played away at Westfields this week.  This was a second visit to Westfields as the match was called off due to rain the previous week.  For the second time this season we were able to field what Captain Helen called the 'Dream Team' of Kerry and Janet - and they did us proud in the first set winning it.  Unfortunately that ...
